Rustic movEable wedding venue bars

This was a unique, interesting and time precious project.
On request, I visited the wedding venue barn manager and discussed in detail what she envisaged to wrap around a large gazebo pole in the courtyard.
After some sketches of mine were approved, I drafted up an estimation and on acceptance of it I ordered all the materials to be delivered to the workshop.
I drew out a full-scale rod drawing and then set to work creating the two bar frameworks. I cut all the cladding components and scaffold tops to size, removing the metal banding from one side and refitting it to the newly cut end, (these were painted black ).
All the timber components were then coated with an oak stain before having Osmo oil applied to help with weather proofing and wear and tear.
I then assembled all the components including the wheels and delivered them to site one at a time to a very happy customer. It was a joy to see them being used and photographed as part of the wedding ceremonies at the barn.

Replacing balustrading

I met with the client, who explained how they would like to replace their existing balustrading with a more modern style. After some deliberation, it was agreed that we would keep the existing newel posts and incorporate new oak balustrading.

After an agreed estimation and gathering of materials I set to work. I laid out dust sheets and removed the dark, old timber rails and filled the mortise holes in the newels with timber fillets and sanded them smooth.

I then cut and fitted the new handrail, base rail and newel caps (one of which I crafted myself). It always takes a fair bit of calculation spacing out the spindles accurately to stair case regulations but once the maths is done the process is incredibly rewarding and I had the whole balustrading done.

I cleared away the dust sheets and gave the whole area a thorough hoovering.
